The History of Micki's

Micki’s Dance Connection was established in 1987 by Micki Surek-Caramelli at the young age of 20. Originally located in a historic building downtown Brantford, it didn’t take long for the studio to outgrow its charming second-floor location and relocate to its current home at 98 Paris Road. The studio was built in 1989 with the love, support, and hard work of Micki’s family. The spacious 5,000-square-foot building was a dream come true for Micki. She developed a large recreational dance department and a strong competitive team of dancers who have trained at MDC for many years. This is when Jennifer Semiwolos joined the competitive team. Micki hosted annual recitals locally at the Sanderson Centre for the Performing Arts, giving students the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of friends and family. Meanwhile, members of the competitive team traveled throughout North America to compete. In 1995, Jennifer began her first year of teaching, and we continue to love seeing her passion for dance grow.

In 2004, after 17 years, Micki sold MDC to Michelle Long, a national gymnast whose daughters, Katelyn and Megan, were already part of the competitive team. Under Michelle’s leadership, the studio continued to flourish, particularly gaining a reputation for its exceptional acro and tumbling program. Michelle also continued the scholarship program Micki had established in the early years of the business. In 2016, we welcomed Micki back to her roots, and she has been managing the office and costume department for the past 8 years.

Now, after over 20 years of ownership, Michelle is beginning to pass on her extensive knowledge to her youngest daughter, Megan, ensuring that MDC’s legacy will continue for generations to come.
